Melissa
I’ve taught A-Level Economics for seven years, mostly working with students who understand the theory but find essays harder. I spend plenty of time on chains of reasoning, evaluation and using diagrams properly rather than dropping them into an answer without explanation. Macroeconomics is my favourite area to teach, particularly inflation, exchange rates and monetary policy because there is always something current to discuss.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring A-Level Economics for four years and I’m a bit obsessed with making difficult topics less complicated than textbooks make them sound. In lessons we might sketch a diagram, talk through a real example and then see how it could appear in an exam question. I particularly enjoy microeconomics and market failure. I also mark essays between sessions, so we can spend lesson time fixing the parts that actually need attention.

Jonathan
My background is in economic research, and I began tutoring alongside postgraduate study. I now work primarily with A-Level Economics students preparing for mocks and final examinations. My approach is quite analytical: students learn to identify what a question is really asking before deciding which theory and evidence to use. I place particular emphasis on data-response questions, accurate diagrams and developing evaluation beyond a brief final paragraph.

Kieran
Economics made much more sense to me when I started connecting the models to things happening outside the classroom, and that is how I like to teach it. I’ve tutored A-Level students for five years, covering everything from elasticity to fiscal policy. We use news stories quite often, then turn those examples into useful application for essays. I’m also very particular about diagrams: labels, shifts and explanations all need to tell the same story.

Monique
I spent several years working with economic and financial data before moving into tutoring. With A-Level Economics students, I usually concentrate on application, quantitative questions and longer written answers. I enjoy teaching macro topics, especially unemployment and economic growth. Lessons are practical rather than lecture-style; we work through a question together, find where marks are being lost and then try a similar problem independently.

Alice
I’ve taught A-Level Economics for more than ten years and have seen the same issue many times: students often know far more economics than their written answers show. A large part of my tutoring therefore focuses on turning knowledge into well-developed analysis. I use past-paper extracts regularly and ask students to justify each step in their reasoning. Development economics and international trade are the topics I probably enjoy discussing most.
